Burundi has some of the highest rates of malnutrition amongst children under 5 anywhere in the world. This has a devastating impact on the physical and mental development of children throughout their whole lives.

International Medical Corps’ approach to tackling this crisis allows us to intervene at every stage of a child’s life, to help protect them from malnutrition. This includes community education and training mothers in simple approaches that will keep their children healthy, distribution of nutritious foods to ensure they get the necessary calories and nutrients and finally intensive treatment services available for those children who do become malnourished.
